This public project received 2015 Merit Awards through AIA Portland and Wood Design Magazine as well as the National Institutional Award from Woodworks, an initiative of the Wood Products Council. The station is operated by The City of Gresham fire department.
The new 11,600 square foot facility replaced a smaller facility located across the street near 302nd Avenue and SE Dodge Park Blvd. A new station was required to serve the increasing demands caused by growth of the surrounding areas.
The project design is highlighted by exposed, 35-foot tall Glulam tudor style arches and exposed wood roof framing in the 3,900 square-foot Apparatus Bay, thus creating an open and efficient space for the fire fighters equipment and vehicles. The glulam arches serve as part of the primary structural frame and were designed to resist vertical and lateral loads required by the building code.
